A survey based on athletic participation at the High School level in the 2016-17 school year conducted by The National Federation of State High School Associations revealed an astonishing 7,963,535 student participation in sports/athletics which is a 101% increase compared to the 1971-72 school year when the association started its surveys.
We should be Texas proud because we lead all states with the highest total of high school sports/athletic participants at 834,558. However, as per the National Eye Institute, someone visits the hospital every 13 minutes due to a sports-related eye injury!
